About the Role
We are looking for a DevOps Engineer with a strong focus on local/on-premises infrastructure, automation, deployment processes, and system reliability.
Your primary responsibility will be to maintain and improve our local infrastructure and development environments. Cloud services may be used where they make sense, but this is not a cloud-first role.
You will work closely with developers and other technical teams to make our infrastructure reliable, secure, maintainable, and increasingly automated.
Responsibilities
- Maintain and improve local/on-premises infrastructure.
- Manage Linux servers, virtual machines, networking, storage, and related infrastructure.
- Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines for automated testing, builds, and deployments.
- Automate server provisioning, configuration, deployments, and repetitive operational tasks.
- Manage containerized applications and services using Docker.
- Maintain development, testing, staging, and production environments.
- Monitor infrastructure and application health, performance, capacity, and availability.
- Implement and maintain logging, monitoring, alerting, backups, and disaster recovery.
- Troubleshoot server, networking, deployment, application, and infrastructure issues.
- Improve infrastructure security, access management, patching, and system hardening.
- Work closely with developers to improve development and release workflows.
- Document infrastructure, configurations, recovery procedures, and operational processes.
- Use cloud infrastructure and services where appropriate as a secondary extension of the local environment.
Requirements
- Experience in a DevOps, Systems Engineering, Infrastructure Engineering, or similar role.
- Strong knowledge of Linux administration.
- Hands-on experience managing on-premises or self-hosted infrastructure.
- Good understanding of networking, DNS, TCP/IP, HTTP/HTTPS, firewalls, routing, and VPNs.
- Experience with virtualization technologies such as VMware, Proxmox, Hyper-V, KVM, or similar.
- Experience with Docker and containerized applications.
- Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions, GitLab CI/CD, Jenkins, Azure DevOps, or similar.
- Experience with Git and modern software development workflows.
- Ability to automate tasks using Bash, Python, Go, or similar languages.
- Experience with infrastructure automation or configuration management tools such as Ansible or Terraform.
- Experience with monitoring and logging systems.
- Understanding of backups, disaster recovery, security, and infrastructure lifecycle management.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
Nice to Have
- Experience with Kubernetes or other container orchestration platforms.
- Experience managing databases and storage infrastructure.
- Experience with high-availability and redundant infrastructure.
- Knowledge of hardware, server management, and data center environments.
- Experience with AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
- Experience connecting local infrastructure with cloud services or hybrid environments.
- Familiarity with secrets management and identity/access management.
What Success Looks Like
In this role, you will help us:
- Keep our local infrastructure stable, secure, and well maintained.
- Reduce manual infrastructure and deployment work through automation.
- Improve visibility into our systems through monitoring and logging.
- Make deployments faster, safer, and more repeatable.
- Improve backup, recovery, and business continuity processes.
- Create infrastructure that developers can use efficiently without unnecessary operational complexity.
- Introduce cloud services selectively when they provide a clear technical or operational benefit.
What We Offer
- Competitive salary and benefits.
- Flexible working arrangements.
- Significant ownership over infrastructure and DevOps practices.
- The opportunity to improve and modernize an existing local infrastructure environment.
- A practical engineering environment where technology choices are based on what works best rather than a cloud-first mandate.
How to Apply
Send us your CV to wanted@memberio.com along with a short introduction describing your experience with on-premises infrastructure, Linux, networking, automation, containers, and CI/CD.
We would also like to hear about an infrastructure or deployment environment you have maintained or improved, what challenges you encountered, and how you solved them.
