Suomen Latu

With nearly 90,000 members and over 170 local member associations spread across Finland, Suomen Latu — the Outdoor Association of Finland — faces the coordination complexity that any large membership-driven NPO knows well.

Local associations run their own events, training sessions, and outdoor activities independently, while decisions flow upward through the national organization. All in service of a mission rooted in getting people outdoors and into nature, rather than profit.

Challenge

Suomen Latu needed a better way to run its member services. The goal wasn’t just to find software — it was to meet real user needs: making everyday member work manageable, supporting customers well, and making it easy for new users to get up and running. Doing that well also requires a certain level of expertise, which can’t rest on people alone.

Solution

Suomen Latu selected memberio through a competitive tender as the solution that best fit those needs. Beyond being a platform to use, it actively supports its users — lowering the expertise barrier so new people can adopt it more easily, and helping the team support their own members. Users can define their own requirements across core functional areas like management, billing, and communications, so the system maps to how Suomen Latu actually works.

Outcome

Suomen Latu has a member-services platform chosen on merit and built around user needs. New users can get started more easily, the platform itself carries some of the expertise load, and the team can describe and configure their key processes — management, billing, and communications — to fit their work. The result is smoother member service and a smoother path to adoption.
